| The information
contained here relates to a website that is outwith our control. We provide this
information in a general format, purely to assist you in downloading and installing Adobe
Acrobat Reader. Because the Adobe website is subject to change by Adobe, we cannot
guarantee that the information is 100% accurate. However, at the time of writing, we
believe the instructions contained here to be correct. You may wish to print this page so that it is easily referred to during the download process. |
In various parts of our site, you will find a graphic like the one in the top right hand corner. Clicking on any one of these will open a new browser window and take you to the UK version of Adobe's site at www.adobe.co.uk
On the Adobe home page, you will find the same graphic - usually at the bottom. Click on this graphic to take you to the Acrobat Reader download section. Once there, you must specify which operating system you are using. This makes sure that you get the correct version of the Acrobat Reader for your operating system.
Next you need to specify which version of Acrobat Reader you wish to download. Adobe make a number of different versions available so that users can choose the facilities they require. The different versions are all of differing file sizes and consequently download times can be effected. As far as our site is concerned, any version will do.
Once you have chosen the version you want, select the download option to start the download process. This may, take you to another page, thanking you for the download.
Depending on your browser and its settings, you may be prompted with a dialog box warning you that the file you are downloading is an executable file. You may be given the opportunity of running the file directly. This can be done, but keep in mind the potential for introducing a virus. Alternatively, choose the Save to Disk option, specify a location on your hard drive and the file will be downloaded to that folder.
Once the download process is completed, you can close the additional
browser window that was opened earlier. You will find yourself back at the
website.
You now need to install the Acrobat Reader software on your machine by running the file you just downloaded. This would typically be done via the START, RUN command on a MS Windows based system. However, you should really virus check the file, if possible, before doing so. No doubt, Adobe virus check their files on their website, but we (and you) cannot guarantee that the file is clean.
The installation process also installs a browser plug-in, allowing you to view our property schedules directly within your browser. If your browser does not support plug-ins, you'll end up downloading a PDF file from our site. Save this to a location on your hard drive from where you can load it directly into the Acrobat Reader.
Adobe PDF files are highly compressed which allows a great amount of data to be presented. Although we could present our schedules directly as standard web pages, they would take up a lot of storage space (when including the pictures of the property) compared to the same information in PDF format. In addition, the download time of the web page, including graphics, would be longer than the downloading of the PDF file, containing exactly the same amount of information.
Another major benefit from our point of view is that PDF files allow us to completely control the layout and presentation of the schedules which we cannot do to the same extent when using web pages.
PDF files are now becoming the de facto standard for distributing documents over the WWW.
